Etwa 2,5 Millionen der insgesamt zwölf Millionen britischen Rentner sind arm, dreimal mehr als in Deutschland. Und Millionen Rentner leben mit dem Risiko, in die Armut abzugleiten. 470 Euro monatlich beträgt die einheitliche Grundrente. Arbeitnehmer, die im Alter mehr Geld zur Verfügung haben möchten, müssen über Betriebsrenten oder private Sparpläne vorsorgen. Das Anlagerisiko trägt allerdings der zukünftige Rentner selbst. Jeff Taylor dachte auch, er könne einen finanziell abgesicherten Lebensabend verbringen. 32 Jahre lang hatte er zunächst für den Automobilkonzern Ford und anschließend für das Tochterunternehmen Visteon UK gearbeitet, bevor er im Dezember 2008 in Rente ging. Doch vier Monate nach Taylors Renteneintritt meldete Visteon UK Insolvenz an. Damit wurde der Betriebsrentenfonds zahlungsunfähig, und der zweifache Familienvater Taylor verlor auf einen Schlag über zehn Prozent seiner ohnehin geringen Betriebsrente. Statt 1.100 Euro bekommt er jetzt weniger als 950 Euro im Monat. Manche seiner Kollegen verloren bis zu 50 Prozent ihrer Betriebsrente. Heute muss Jeff Taylor wieder arbeiten gehen wie Hunderttausende britische Rentner auch. Noch schlechter geht es der 70-jährigen Joan Denham. Visteon Reports Mixed Q4 Results, Issues 2011 Guidance

Visteon Corporation (NYSE:VC) reported Q4 EPS of $1.66, above consensus estimates of $1.29 per share. Revenues for the quarter were down 4.2% year-over-year to $1.89 billion, below consensus estimates of $1.95 billion. Visteon expects 2011 product sales in the range of $7.3 billion to $7.5 billion, in-line with consensus estimates of $7.4 billion. Donald J. Stebbins, chairman, chief executive officer and president said, "Our full-year financial results significantly improved from last year, reflecting our ongoing operational actions, benefits from our restructuring initiatives and an upswing in global vehicle production volumes, We capitalized on sales growth in China and other emerging markets through our extensive manufacturing and engineering presence in these key regions." Visteon completed its reorganization and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 1, 2010, having voluntarily declared on May 28, 2009. Visteon Corp is trading down 11% at $65.65 per share.

Centrafuse Customized for the CES Visteon Booth - CES 2010

Visteon is using an Intel reference design made by Kongatec for their vehicle computing system. One of their demo computers is using Centrafuse and Microsoft Automotive. Centrafuse has been customized in terms of graphics and plugins to demonstrate internet connectivity to access information such as traffic, weather and Pandora. The plugins are currently prototypes and not for sale.

John Maguire, Unite convener at the Visteon plant in Belfast, talks to the crowd who turned out for the workers union rally outside the City Hall in Belfast. 210 employees lost their jobs after Visteon closed the Belfast plant on the 31st March 2009, giving the employees 6 minutes notice. The employees of Visteon (formerly Ford Motor Company) were promised lifetime terms and conditions by Ford after their creation of Visteon in 2000. As yet, no pension or redundancy has been given by Ford. The ex-employees continue to occupy the Belfast plant to fight for the pension and redundancy payments they are owed.

Capitalism isnt working and the results include mass unemployment, repossessions, increased racism, criminal neglect of climate change and intensified pressures towards war. In Britain unemployment is over 2.2 million and headed upwards, despite empty talk of recovery. Younger people are hit particularly hard. There are 820000 unemployed under the age of 25. Around 600000 people leave school this summer and many will not find jobs. The unemployment rate for 16 and 17 year olds stands at 29.3 percent. We need action to defend every job and to win rights for the unemployed. The government has found tens of billions to bailout banks and financial institutions, but has done very little to defend workers jobs and living standards as we have seen at LDV in Birmingham. And the government is pressing ahead with policies that directly threaten jobs from Royal Mail to local government to the civil service to the NHS. We congratulate workers at Waterford Glass, Prisme and Visteon for their occupations and campaigns which showed it is possible to fight back and win over jobs.
